just a quick little update: i had a bad case of malaria - that'll teach me not to forget to take my profalaxis (sp?), eh?

but now i'm just fine. people think i'm a little too crazy tho, so they're sending me to dc to see a psychiatrist. yay, i love psychiatrists. they're always so... interested in my thoughts ;)

Yikes, had some PCVs do pretty much the same thing during my stay and it didn't sound all that pleasant. One claimed he was still taking his meds, and I tend to believe him even though it seems a stretch to believe he caught a resistant strain. I kept up with the malaria prophylaxis, but bailed on filtering and chlorinating my water and drank relatively freely from all but the sketchiest of water sources.

Best of luck getting back up 'n running and getting your strength back. They gonna pull you out of service, or are you gonna be able to stay overseas after the stint in DC?

Okay, so ignore my other comment asking what you were doing in the hospital. I'm glad you're feeling better! Take care of yourself. When are you going to be in DC? We should try to get coffee or something.

Oh, zoiks! My roommate in Seattle who'd been in the Peace Corps (in Mali) got malaria three times -- the third time she lost something like 30 pounds in a week -- they thought she might die. You look as radiant as ever, so I hope that's a good sign. :-) I love the fabric pattern on the nurse's caftan -- the scissors and stethescopes -- hee!
